Lead times by season

For ordinary weeks, booking 1 to 2 months out captures normal pricing with full choice of areas and tiers. For July, August and the December to early January holidays, the well-reviewed villas and boutique properties in Canggu, Uluwatu and Ubud sell through 3 to 4 months ahead, and what remains reprices upward as the dates approach, as of August 2026.

Bali splits by property type more than most markets. Private villas and small guesthouses have little inventory to release, so they behave like peak-season Tokyo: sell out rather than discount. Large resorts in Nusa Dua, Sanur and Kuta carry deep room counts and keep discounting into the final weeks outside the peaks.

The refundable-rate play

The strategy that fits Bali: book a refundable villa or boutique rate as soon as dates firm up, then recheck prices once or twice before the cancellation deadline and rebook if the market has softened. In the wet season, travelers happy with big-resort inventory can hold out for late deals instead.

Should I book refundable or prepaid rates in Bali?

Does the wet season change the booking math?

Yes. From late January to March, supply outruns demand, resorts discount steadily, and booking a couple of weeks out is usually safe outside holiday dates.

Is booking directly with a Bali resort cheaper than an OTA?

International chains sometimes hold small direct perks, but OTA pricing on Agoda, Booking.com and Trip.com is usually equal or better on Indonesian inventory once member rates and cashback are counted.

How does Nyepi affect Bali bookings?

Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence in March, closes the airport and confines guests to their hotels for the day. Properties stay bookable and quiet-day packages exist, but plan arrival and departure around it.
